Greece’s Carnival season, known as “Apokries,” is a period which traditionally begins ten weeks before Greek Orthodox Easter and culminates on the weekend before “Clean Monday,” (Ash Monday) the first day of Lent, which is on March 3 this year. It is marked by masquerading, eating, drinking and dancing.

Each February, the Ottawa Hellenic Athletic Association (OHAA) hosts the Apokries dance, where both members and non-members of the HCO dress up in costume and enjoy an evening of fun and dance.
